China's Finance Ministry¹ says the country will step up its crackdown on companies or individuals involved in illegal online lotteries².

The ministry says it has not approved internet lottery³ sales.

 

In the new round of action, the ministry will coordinate⁴ with public security departments and banks to monitor lottery companies and individual agents.

 

During the Football World Cup this summer, dozens of football lottery apps emerged to attract fans eager to try their luck with a bet. All the apps were shut down in a week.

 

Last month, police busted⁵ 28 online gambling⁶ gangs. More than 200 suspects were arrested.
