BEIJING - A senior Chinese lawmaker said on Wednesday that legislation requiring public officials to declare their personal assets is under consideration and seen as a move to prevent corruption1 and improve government transparency.

新华社消息,本周三一位高级立法委员称,要求政府工作人员报告自己私人财产的法规正在考虑之中,这将有助于防止腐败、提高政府工作透明度。

"We are researching the issue, since the legislation requires mature consideration of all conditions," said Li Fei, deputy director(副局长,副厅长) of the Legislative2 Affairs Committee of the National People' s Congress (NPC全国人民代表大会) Standing3 Committee.

Li noted4 that the legislation should be assisted(协助 ,援助) by the establishment of the personal credit system(信贷制度) , which details individuals' financial information even if assets are not declared.

Premier5 Wen Jiabao said on March 5 that high priority should be given to fighting corruption and encouraging integrity(正直,诚实) among public officials.

Leading cadres(干部,骨骼) at all levels, especially high-ranking ones, must resolutely6 implement7(实现,实施) the central leadership's regulations(条例,法规) on reporting their personal financial situations and property, including incomes, housing and investments, as well as the jobs held by their spouses8(配偶) and children, Wen said.
