Chinanews, Beijing, November 22– “It is sad to see that over 70% of health crisis in China occur in schools, and over 80% of these school health problems are related to infectious diseases,”said Jiang Zuojun, Vice1 Minister of Health, yesterday.

"Most schools in the rural areas can not even guarantee the basic hygiene2 on their campuses, especially in their canteens, which is a dangerous sign,"said Jiang. Furthermore, many schools in China suffer from lack of qualified3 medical staff members, thus it is impossible for them to deal with any health crisis at all, not to mention the burst of epidemic4 of infectious diseases.

Jiang said the MOH will pay more attention to health problems in the schools, especially rural elementary schools, and put them under the administration of public health system. "Precautions should always come first, particularly in remote areas," concluded Jiang.
