School officials, from senior executives to headmasters, will be required to dine with students in canteens in China's middle schools, primary schools, and kindergartens from April 1, according to a notice issued by the Education Ministry, the State Administration for Market Regulation, and the National Health Commission on Tuesday.

 

教育部、国家市场监督管理总局和国家卫计委周二联合下发通知，4月1日起国内中小学以及幼儿园的学校官员，从高管到校长，都必须陪学生一起在餐厅吃饭。

 

Earlier this month, parents of students at a primary school in Chengdu posted videos and photos of moldy canteen food they claimed had made their children ill.

 

Local authorities collected samples of food from the school and found evidence sub-standard noodles were being used, but the remaining did not have any problems. Another three samples are being tested for salmonella.
