China's top legislature on Friday passed a law on people's assessors, which allows a group of citizens to work with professional judges to try cases in court.

 

中国最高立法机构周五通过一项人民陪审员法，允许一组市民与专业法官合作审理案件。

 

The law was adopted after the second reading at the bimonthly session of the Standing¹ Committee of the National People's Congress which ended Friday.

 

The law stipulates² that assessors will "have equal rights" as judges in trial, unless it specifically states otherwise.
