China Mobile, the country's largest mobile telecom operator, plans to phase out its long distance & roaming charges by the end of 2016, the Beijing Times reports.

China Mobile CEO Li Yue made the announcement during a press conference on Thursday.

 

Official data shows that traffic revenue of China Mobile in the first half of this year increased 26.7 percent to 195 billion yuan, or more than 29 billion USD, which accounts for 43.3 percent of the income sources of China Mobile.

 

It is expected that all the company's services will be charged by traffic, including voice calls and SMS, as it has become a new trend in the telecom industry.

 

Another telecom giant China Telecom made the same announcement in July. 4G subscribers will account for over 80% for China Telecom this year.
