Indian police Friday claimed to have arrested a manager of a state-run oil company for attempting to recruit young Muslims for the terror outfit¹ Islamic State.

"Mohammad Sirazudin, the marketing² manager of the Indian Oil Corporation, was arrested by anti-terror squad³ from his flat in the western state of Rajasthan's capital Jaipur late Thursday evening," Alok Tripathi, the state's anti-terror police chief, told the media.

He added: "Sirazudin was held for his alleged⁴ involvement in international terrorist organization Islamic State, supplying official inputs⁵ and recruiting organization members in the country."

The data analysis of the accused's internet activity shows that he was deeply influenced by the Islamic State and was trying to draw young Muslims towards the organization, Tripathi said, adding he was also trying to establish contacts with the IS leadership.

"The suspect is being interrogated⁶ for further information," the official said.
