Chinanews, Beijing, May 17 – CCTV reports that some symbols found in rock paintings in Helan Mountains are believed to be the embryonic¹ form of Chinese script.

Recently, researchers have discovered 36 rock paintings on the rock faces in the mountains from Helan to Suyukou. Besides animal pictures like sheep and horses, a certain amount of unidentified graphic² characters are considered to be ideographs, the earliest Chinese script.

Research shows that these rock paintings could possibly date back to the New Stone Age.
