33% of dams and reservoirs turn obsolete

Chinanews, Beijing, Mar1. 24 – Zhu Erming, honorary chairman of Chinese Hydraulic2 Engineering Society, said on Thursday that China has 85 thousand dams and reservoirs, some 33% of them having turned obsolete3, especially medium and small where problem is even more serious.

 

He said that China has done a lot to deal with water quality since the 1950s. But he warned at the same time that China still have more to do to provide safe and high-quality water.

 

Zhu also points out that some of these dams are located in transportation hubs or densely4 populated areas, which may cause grave danger in the future.
