| Chinanews, Shenyang, December 7 – A shopping center in Shenyang, Liaoning Province is making a giant Christmas tree, which will be the tallest of its kind in the world when completed.
The tree will be 36 meters tall and its diameter will be 10 meters. Steel parts alone weigh as heavy as 16 tons. It requires 12,200 pine branches, 1,000 LED lights, 1,000 ribbon bowknots and some 2,000 colored orbs1 to decorate the tree. It is estimated that the tree will cost at least 300 thousand yuan.
The shopping center has applied2 for the Guinness Record of the tallest Christmas tree, at the same time, it is soliciting3 local citizens for the proper naming of the tree, with an offer of 500-yuan prize to the winner.
