Chinanews, Guangzhou, July 12 – Guangzhou conducted an opinion poll on medical services in the city, finding that though most respondents feel satisfied with the medical services, 45.2% of them complain about doctors accepting hongbao (red envelop1 or paper bag containing money given privately2 as a gift).

About 73.1% of citizens and 83.5% of patients are satisfied with the professional ethics3 of doctors. 29.8% of citizens and 33.0% of patients say that they are very pleased with it, though many of them wish to receive warmer service from doctors and nurses.

However, 37.5% of citizens and 45.2% of patients say that their doctors asked them for hongbao. Sometimes, doctors prescribe very expensive drugs for patients, make them take unnecessary checks, or persuade them to use imported drugs.

Some 21.2% of citizens and 17.2% of patients wish local government to take action against the use of fake medical, unqualified doctors, and medical bribery4, of course.
