Chinanews, Guangzhou, June 14 – The Guangzhou Municipal Statistics Bureau on Monday issued the result of a survey, which shows that most people in Guangzhou acknowledge the improvement made in the local social security system reform. However, some people fear they might not be covered by the current social security system when they get fatal diseases or accidental injuries or when they lose their jobs, the Information Daily reported.

The survey was done by investigating 5,000 people living in 200 communities in 6 districts of Guangzhou. The respondents are aged1 between 18 and 65 (the samples do not include students).

The survey shows that most Guangzhou residents think that the local social security reform has made some achievement, with 30.6% of the local residents rating it as "satisfactory" or "relatively2 satisfactory" and 53.6% of them rating it as "just so-so".

Among the five major types of social security listed by the survey, 34.3% of the people say that the pension system is better than two years ago and 28.4% of them think the medical insurance system has improved. Despite this, the two systems still do not meet local residents’ expectation.

50.7% of the respondents pick the “medical insurance system” as one that should improve most, followed by the pension system (with 29.4% of them picking up this item), the minimum living allowance system for the poorest group in cities (7.6%), employment insurance system (6.4%), and the minimum wage standard set for full-time3 employees(5.9%).

The survey also shows that many residents in Guangzhou are willing to buy insurance products. More than 70% of the respondents buy some insurance products, the most popular insurance products being pension products (66.6% of the respondents), followed by the medical insurance products (57.9% of the respondents). In addition, 35.8% of the respondents buy employment insurance products, 29.6% of them buy work-related injury insurance products and 19.1% of them buy childbirth insurance products.

Despite this, many people still fear that they cannot guarantee their livelihood4 when they are in a difficult situation. Nearly 90% of the people fear that they might have some problem with their livelihood when they get fatal diseases. Over 40% of the people worry that they might have problems making a living when they get injuries or when they lose their jobs.
