Chinanews, Beijing, June 4 – China released a website usage report among Chinese adolescents on Sunday. The report shows that in China, about 85.21% of Chinese adolescents surf on the Internet frequently. Among their parents, such rate is only 66%.
The survey was conducted by the China Youth Social Service Center, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Youth Center and the China Youth College of Political Sciences. The report shows that 40% of adolescents think that surfing on the Internet is helpful to their study and life. However, 40% of parents and teachers think that surfing on the Internet will bring more negative consequences than positive ones. 70% of adolescents hope that adults can give them some necessary advice about Internet surfing. Parents, teachers and adolescents all hope that there will be some websites launched exclusively for adolescents. The survey covers mostly primary and middle school students aged1 11-17, as well as some of their parents and teachers. Students from both urban and rural areas are selected in the survey and these students come from Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Chongqing, Heilongjiang, Shandong, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Hubei, Sichuan, and Shaanxi. The survey shows that nearly half of the adolescents prefer to surf on the Internet at home. In regard to their use of the Internet, nearly 40% of the young people say they surf on the Internet mostly for pleasure, next for making friends or learning something. In addition, 60% of the students play online games and 30% of those who never play online games say they would like to try some. 70% of the respondents say they never indulge themselves in online activities. Despite this, 40% of the students in the survey say that some of their classmates have been indulged in the Internet.
