Chinanews, Beijing, Apr. 20 – According to a report from Legality Evening News, more than 70% of mental disease patients have got out of hand. Last year there were 207 cases committed by those patients. As most of them came from poor families, which could afford to compensate1 the victims for their losses, so an expert pointed2 out that the government should set up special funds for this purpose instead.

According to statistics from the Ministry3 of Health, China has 16 million mental patients and 6 million epileptics. Beijing Municipal Bureau of Health also reveals that there are still 12,105 such mental patients in need of taking medicines, while in 2004, only 3,634 patients had to take medicines.

As mental patients are hard to get employed, they are mainly supported by their parents or relatives. Experts hope those patients can get medicines for free. The municipal government of Beijing also needs to take measures to compensate victims for the harm done to them by mental patients.
