New statistics show 2,031 have competed for a license¹ plate in June through Beijing's vehicle lottery² system, a new record, reports the Beijing Youth Daily.

Around 2.8 million applied³ for license plates through the lottery system by June 8, 2018.

This saw the likelihood of winning rise to 1-to-2,013. The ratio was 1-in-1,963 in April.

The same report also shows the limited number of new energy license plates allocated⁴ for Beijing for the full year have already been given out.

Beijing started to issue license plates under a lottery system in Jan 2011, designed to curb⁵ pollution and traffic.
