New figures show more overseas Chinese students have chosen to return to China for work.

According to the Ministry¹ of Human Resources and Social Security, a total of 2.65 million overseas students had returned to China by the end of last year, with 432,500 people coming back in 2016 alone, setting a record.

 

The ratio of overseas students choosing to return home among total overseas students has increased by about 10 percentage points in the past four years.

 

Policy support from the Chinese government is being viewed as one of the key reasons.

 

By the end of 2016, China set up 347 start-up hubs for those with overseas experience. Over 27,000 companies are based in these hubs.

 

The government has promised to continue to offer policy support to address challenges facing overseas students in areas such as settlement, education for their children and business financing².
