| Oct. 22 - Yang Wei and Cheng Fei have claimed two more gold to give China eight titles after the final day of the world gymnastics championships as the United States went home without any titles.
Yang won the parallel bars on Saturday and Cheng the floor to give China their most successful world championships ever as they prepare for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Between them Yang and Chen helped the team to six titles out of the 14 on offer during the week.
Yang, 26, was the most successful man, winning three gold.
He won the men's all-around earlier this week as well as helping1 China defend their men's team title.
"This is the best result for us in the history of gymnastics. I wouldn't say I'm surprised though," said Yang. "I can only congratulate the team and hope we do as good as this in Beijing."
Cheng, 18, the most successful woman, wrapped up the final day with an acrobatic floor routine which gave her a third title.
She failed to make the all-around final but defended her vault2 crown and helped China win their first women's team title at the expense of defending champions the United States.
China topped the medals with eight titles ahead of Romania who won four medals - two gold, a silver and a bronze.
The United States, meanwhile, had their worst world championships since Tianjin in 1999 as they went home without any titles.
Cheng ended the final US title hope on the floor.
She scored 15.875 to push all-around silver medallist Jana Bieger (15.550) into silver medal position.
World all-around champion Vanessa Ferrari, 15, who single-handedly lifted Italy to fourth on the medals table, took her second bronze after also finishing third on the uneven3 bars Friday.
But she missed out on a medal on the beam as like in the all-around final she fell from that apparatus4 to finish sixth in an event won by Ukraine's Iryna Krasnianska.
Australia were third best after Philippe Rizzo gave his country their first ever world gymnastics gold in the final event of the championship, the high bar, to add to Prashanth Sellathurai's pommel horse silver on Friday.
Rizzo, 25, surpassed his previous best of silver at the 2001 worlds as he pushed defending champion Aljaz Pegan of Slovenia into silver-medal position with Greece's Vlasios Maras taking bronze.
"It's good that I made history," said Rizzo, who scored 16.125 with Pegan achieving 15.900 after stepping back on his landing. Maras scored 15.800.
Yang meanwhile took parallel bars gold ahead of Japan's Hiroyuki Tomita, who had to settle for joint5 silver with South Korea's Yoo Won Chul. Tomita finished second in the all-around after losing his title to Yang.
Romanian veteran Marian Dragulescu successfully defended his vault title to claim the sixth world gold of his career.
A day after winning his third world title on floor the 26-year-old from Bucharest took his third vault gold with a combined 16.487 after two jumps.
Dragulescu also won the world vault title in 2005 and 2001 and the floor title in 2001 and 2002.
Dimitri Kaspiarovich of Belarus took silver (16.312) with Germany's Fabian Hambuechen, winner of the all-around bronze here this week, finishing third with 15.825.
China's Chen Yibing, 22, won rings gold, as Xiao Qin, 21, successfully defended the pommel horse on Friday.
