Chinanews, Shenyang, May 15 - After the demolition1 of the two major stadiums in Liaoning Province, Shenyang is planning to build a comprehensive sports center, which will serve as a stadium, training center and sport industrial center when completed in 2009, to take their places.
The project was started on the morning of May 15, near the Shenyang Olympic Center, which will be completed soon. The comprehensive sports center will cover approximately 360 thousand sq m, with a construction investment of 1.675 billion yuan. The total investment will be over 2 billion yuan, taking land usage and ancillary2 facilities into consideration. Liaoning is well known in China for being the home province of 265 world title holders3 and 19 Olympic champions. "The sports center will greatly enhance Liaoning's strength in sports, for it will provide better training conditions and be capable of hosting world-class sports events, not to mention that it will also be a perfect gym for Shenyang citizens," said Sun Yongyan, the director of Liaoning Provincial4 Sports Administration.
