President Hu told U.S. secretary of state Rice that China firmly opposes DPRK's nuclear test and adheres to UN Security Council Resolution 1718.

Oct. 21 - U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice left for Russia Saturday morning, concluding a whirlwind visit to China and to continue his four-nation tour.

Rice met on Friday shortly after arrival with Chinese President Hu Jintao, Premier1 Wen Jiabao, State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan, respectively, and held talks with Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing.

Rice's visit comes amid international efforts to ease up the situation worsened by the nuclear test carried out by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea on Oct. 9.

Rice exchanged views in-depth with Chinese leaders on the issue as well as the China-U.S. relations.

She said the Korean nuclear issue is the most pressing issue in the world and the U.S. side is willing to solve the issue through diplomatic channels and does not want to worsen the situation, Rice said.

President Hu told Rice that China firmly opposes DPRK's nuclear test and adheres to UN Security Council Resolution 1718, adding China will pursue a peaceful solution to the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula through dialogue and negotiation2.

Rice has visited Japan and the Republic of Korea. She will continue his four-nation tour in Russia on Saturday, to discuss with Russian leaders on the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue.
