The UN Secretary-General has told Chinese media that the Belt and Road Initiative is a demonstration¹ of new vision that China has brought to global development, and he said it could help address global problems and enhance international cooperation.

Before heading for Beijing to attend the Belt and Road Forum² for International Cooperation on May 14th-15th, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres told a group of UN-based Chinese news outlets³ on Monday that he's excited to participate in the forum, and that he has high expectations for the Belt and Road Initiative.

 

"When one looks at the Belt and Road Initiative, we see very important contribution to this solidarity⁴ in addressing global problems with International cooperation, where China plays a very central role. So I'm very happy that I will have the chance to participate in this Belt and Road Summit. We are at the beginning of its implementation⁵, but I think that there is now enormous amount of enthusiasm, and so I must say that I have very high expectations,"Guterres said. 

 

The UN chief said that the upcoming forum would bring a better understanding to the world of China's Belt and Road Initiative:"This is an excellent opportunity to see all the projects that the Belt and Road Initiative is developing, which are very important infrastructure⁶ projects in different parts of the world. And so I'm in extreme enthusiasm participating in this discussion to see how we can extract the maximum possible value of the Belt and Road Initiative for global inclusive and sustainable development."
