The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Tuesday said it would never yield to pressure by the United States as the latter spearheads a global campaign to isolate¹ and stifle² the country.

A DPRK Foreign Ministry³ spokesman told the Korean Central News Agency that the United States was seeking to gain public support at home and abroad for a new policy called "maximum pressure and engagement." 

 

"U.S. President Trump⁴ personally invited the delegates of the member states of the UN Security Council to the White House to discuss the issue of the DPRK," said the spokesman.

 

"A closed-door briefing on the new policy toward the DPRK will be reportedly held in the White House for the senators in the presence of high-ranking officials including the State and Defense⁵ secretaries," said the spokesman. 

 

"This is just a risky⁶ act little short of lighting⁷ the fuse of a total war," the spokesman added.

 

Trump said Monday when meeting envoys⁸ of 15 UN Security Council member countries at the White House that the "status quo" of the DPRK was "unacceptable" and the country was a "world problem which should be solved," calling for harsher sanctions against Pyongyang.
