Chinanews, Nanjing, Sept. 21 - China World Canal Cities Expo will be held in Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province on Sept. 26 – 28. A series of activities will be launched then in the city.

 

Representatives from more than 40 canal cities of 13 nations will be gathered in Yangzhou to discuss about protection of cultural heritage. During the expo, China will start its efforts to lobby for inclusion of its Grand Canal listed on the World Cultural Heritage list.

 

China built the world’s first canal during the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 B.C.), later became the present Grand Canal, that traverses through Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shandong, Jiangsu to Zhejiang.
