THE FAITH YOU NEED

　　必要的信念

　　A man was lost while driving through the country. As he tried to read a map, he accidentallydrove off the road into a ditch. Though he wasn't injured, his car was stuck deep in the mud. So theman walked to a nearby farm to ask for help.

　　“Warwick can get you out of that ditch,” said the farmer, pointing to an old mule standing ina field. The man looked at the haggardly mule and looked at the farmer who just stood thererepeating, “Yep, old Warwick can do the job.” The man figured he had nothing to lose. The twomen and Warwick made their way back to the ditch.

　　The farmer hitched the mule to the car. With a snap of the reins he shouted, “Pull, Fred!

　　Pull, Jack! Pull, Ted! Pull, Warwick!” And the mule pulled the car from the ditch with very littleeffort.

　　The man was amazed. He thanked the farmer, patted the mule and asked, “Why did you callout all of those other names before you called Warwick?”

　　The farmer grinned and said, “Old Warwick is just about blind. As long as he believes he'spart of a team, he doesn't mind pulling.”

　　一个人开着车在乡间迷了路。正试着查看地图的工夫，不小心连人带车栽进了沟里。

　　尽管人没受伤，他的车却深深地陷到了泥里。于是，这个人走到旁边的农场去求助。

　　“沃里克能把你的车从沟里拽出来，”农夫指着田里一头上了年纪的骡子说。这个人看了看骡子憔悴的模样，又听农夫重复说着：“这点活儿，老沃里克干得了！”这人觉得试试也没什么损失，两个人就牵着沃里克来到了泥沟边。

　　农夫把骡子拴到汽车上，一扽缰绳，喊道：“用力拉，弗雷德！使劲儿，杰克！拽啊，特德！使劲儿拉，沃里克！”这头骡子没费吹灰之力就把车从沟里拽了出来。

　　这人感到很惊讶。他谢过农夫，拍了拍骡子，问道：“你怎么在叫沃里克之前喊了那么多别的名字呀？”

　　农夫咧嘴笑着说：“沃里克老了，眼睛不太好使。只要他觉得不只是自己在干活，他就肯出力气。”
