Chinanews, Beijing, June 14 – On May 31, a festival on shamanist culture was held in the Shamanist Amusement Park in Longwan, Changchun. A large male reproductive organ totem was made and hung on a high hill for the festival. The totem measured 9 meters high and had a diameter of 1.08 meters. Its frame was made of steel and the object was wrapped by straw from the outside. Cheng Weiguang, head of the Shamanist Amusement Park, said it was the largest man-made reproductive organ totem ever made in China, the Legal Daily reported.

Legend has it that in ancient time, there was an island where many female devils lived. The female devils got pregnant by drinking the water on the island. The female devils hated men. They killed all the men they captured and they killed their babies if they were boys. Later, a female chieftain conquered the island. In order to teach the devils to respect men, the female chieftain set up a large male reproductive organ totem on the island. Later, men gained more respect on the island and society gradually changed into a patriarchal one with men in the dominant1 position.

Due to the large male reproductive organ, the Shamanist Amusement Park and Cheng Weiguang have now become the focus of media.

“I have heard a lot of criticism recently,” said Yang when he first met this reporter.

When asked whether he would apply for the Guinness record for the large reproductive organ, Yang didn’t give a definite answer. However, he said they should apply for inclusion of the Shamanist culture in the world cultural heritage list.

Reproductive organ totem is one of the eight distinctive2 features in Shamanist culture. People should not highlight this single feature and neglect the other features. Rather, they are an integral part of Shamanist culture, said Zhang Shouzhi, vice3 chairman of the Jilin Folk Art Association.

Shamanist culture is said to be the origin of the culture of the northern people of China. It includes many elements that Chinese forefathers4 created. For this reason, people regard it as the embodiment and origin of the culture of north China. It has become an important source for people to study the culture in ancient time. There are about 40 countries in the world where people believe in Shamanist culture.
