Chinanews, Shanghai, Apr. 29 – For the first time, a stage show performed by Chinese actors and actresses will be debutted in the Broadway in New York. Also for the first time, a classic US musical is remade into a foreign language and performed in the world’s top-class drama stage.

Starting from May 9, a musical comedy, I Love You, You Are Perfect, Now Change, which is jointly1 produced by the Shanghai Dramatic Art Center and the Broadway Asia Entertainment, will give 23 performances in the Westside Theater in New York. It will be the first time that a Chinese language drama is ever shown in Broadway, said Yang Shaolin, general manager of the Shanghai Dramatic Art Center, at a press release on Saturday.

I Love You…once had the longest performing period in off-Broadway street. It is also considered as one of the most classic musicals in the United States. The Ninth Avenue in New York’s took its name after it, which might indicate how American people love the show.

A humorous and romantic show, I Love You…describes several people’s romantic love stories and their marriage happening in the hustle2 and bustle3 of the city. The drama is commented upon as witty4, meaningful and hilarious5.

Chinese pop star Allen Lin will take the starring role in the show together with some leading actors and actresses from the Shanghai Dramatic Art Center, including Wen Yang, Yu Yi, and Ma Qingli. They will try to display urbanites’ emotional life in cities with piano or violin accompaniment.

Starting from May 9, the Chinese language of the show, I Love You… will be performed in repertory with the American original in the Westside Theatre in Manhattan, the first time ever in American drama history.

With Chinese actors and actresses performing in an American musical comedy, it might serve as a touchstone for more American stage shows to become popular among Chinese, insiders said.
