China's continued promotion¹ of self-driving cars has been drawing a lot of attention from foreign media outlets², with most suggesting China will take the lead in the sector³ globally.

China is much faster than other countries in self-driving research and development, according to a report named "China will be bellwether⁴ in self-driving cars industry" published last Thursday on the website of Deutsche Welle, Germany's public international broadcaster.

 

Ferdinand Dudenhoffer, a professor of economics with the University of Duisburg-Essen, notes China has made strong gains in many fields, noting a drive to implement⁵ 5G network standards by 2025 nationwide.

 

China has laid out national guidelines for self-driving vehicle testing. Noting this, a report by Reuters recently suggested China is expected to keep pace with the United States in developing autonomous⁶ vehicles.

 

Meantime, Twitter users such as Pandiyan Vairamani (@pandiyanv) from India and Rich Tehrani (@rtehrani) from the United States have shared the report on China's push into autonomous vehicles on the social media platform, with comments reading "China puts autonomous vehicles on the fast lane."
