Chinanews, Dalian, November 29 – Overweight problems has both affected¹ the health of the Chinese, and caused great economic losses. In 2005 alone, the Chinese spent about 11 billion yuan for reducing their superfluous² fat, and the amount of money involved is growing by 5% every year. It can be estimated that the weight-loss market will reach the 60-billion-yuan mark by 2010.

Currently, there are about 9 million Chinese suffering from obesity³. Many of the obese⁴ population are in the southwest, northeast and north parts of the country, especially in big cities. For example, nearly 30% of the Beijingers are overweighted.

What is worse is that more than 50% of youths in China are overweighted.
