Chinanews, Beijing, March 29 - "It is estimated that more than 300 billion yuan are wasted every year in housing decoration in China," said Qiu Baoxing, Vice1 Minister of Construction.
Nowadays, less than 10% of commercial houses have been decorated before they are released for sale, while the figure in developed countries is usually higher than 80%. Statistics show that more than 90 million new housings in China need decoration every year, and most Chinese who buy secondhand housings will redecorate them. Although interior decoration industry is worth some 650 billion yuan, waste and pollution caused by it should never be overlooked. Besides, excessive demolition2 in many cities in China also causes great waste. "China should build more ecofriendly housings in the future, which, of course, will have been decorated before entering the market," said Qiu.
