The American semiconductor¹ giant Micron Technology announced on Tuesday that the company had resumed exporting some of its products to Huawei despite a recent ban imposed on the company by the United States government.

The company decided² to "lawfully³ resume shipping⁴ a subset of current products" to Huawei that were unaffected by export restrictions⁵, said Sanjay Mehrotra, the chief executive of Micron. "However, there is considerable ongoing⁶ uncertainties⁷ surrounding the Huawei situation and we are unable to predict the volumes or time periods over which we will be able to ship products to Huawei."

 

The United States government imposed export controls on Huawei last month that prohibit American companies from providing components⁸ to the company without government approval.

 

According to Micron's third-quarter financial report, the company lost sales of around 200 million U.S. dollars when the export restrictions came into effect. The company's stock price was up by 10 percent on the NASDAQ after the company released its financial report and its statement that it was continuing to do business with Huawei.

 

Mehrotra said Micron will decide whether to continue exporting its products to Huawei, noting it is not collaborating⁹ with the United States government or other semiconductor manufacturers.

 

Intel, another American chip maker¹⁰, has also resumed shipments to Huawei.
