Ren is curious about the relationship between the UK and Australia. In many ways the two countries have a lot of things in common and they speak the same language.

Australia was set up as a British colony hundreds of years ago so the two places have a historical connection. This has led to some good - humoured assumptions about the Australians, or Aussies as they are affectionately known.

These assumptions are called stereotypes1. Some British people think an Aussie's attitude to life is laid back 放松的,随和的and also that they use a number of catchphrases 名言、警句. See if you can hear these ones in this programme:

G'day
No worries
Mad as a cut snake

There is big sporting rivalry2 between the two countries. This is good natured and involves a bit of teasing but when Britain wins The Ashes cricket tournament, as they have just done, people are a bit more sensitive. Despite this, the two countries remain best of friends.
