The Ascendant in a horoscope is the sign rising over the horizon at eh exact moment of the native’s birth. The Sun of the native is placed at mid-heaven, and the sign coming up over the parallel line of the horizon is the Ascendant. The time of the native’s birth is necessary for the finding of the ascendant, because of the possible planets posited1 in that sign at that moment. In fact, for any detailed2 horoscope the exact moment of birth is imperative3. Traditionally, in Astrology the ascendant shapes the personality and frequently the appearance. In many cases this influence blends with the sun sign to make a complete personality. The qualities of the ascendant are the same as if the sun were in that sign at birth, and often when the native has a powerful solar influence at birth and an equally strong ascendant, the personality is what is called “loud.” If the solar influence is weak, and the moon not very well placed, the ascendant, often carries the chart, If there are planets in the rising sign, the personality is colored by the quality of the planets in that particular sign.
