北京将在7月20号前开通3条地铁新线，包括10号线一期工程、奥运支线和机场快线，其中奥运支线全长5.91公里，位于北京市南北中轴线上，可通往鸟巢、水立方；机场快线全长28公里，通车后乘客从东直门到达机场只需16分钟。

    地铁10号线一期工程、奥运支线和机场快线目前正在进行不载客试运行，并将于7月20日正式开通运营。

    上述报道中，the Olympic Extension就是“奥运支线”，extension在这里的意思是an addition to the length of something，即“延长线，扩展区”等；在办公室里很常用的一个表达telephone extension，相信大家都不陌生，就是“电话分机”的意思，这里的extension指的是an additional telephone set that is connected to the same telephone line，即“分机”，那么“分机号码”当然就是extension number了。
