该研究团队的负责人马海霞博士称，这些在海南热带雨林国家公园发现的真菌新物种都属于子囊菌门炭角菌目(the fungi¹ belong to the Xylaria genus)，能够分解纤维素和木质素(decompose cellulose and lignin)，作为分解者在热带雨林生态循环系统中发挥重要作用(play an important decomposition² role in the tropical rainforest ecosystem)。相关研究成果已经发表在《Mycokeys》等国际生物分类学权威期刊上。
