A trailer for the highly anticipated TV drama "The Empress of China" starring Fan Bingbing, has been released in the mainland.

The 90 second clip shows the cast dressed in costumes of antiquity¹ against the backdrop of ancient China.

Based on events from the 7th and 8th-century Tang Dynasty "The Empress of China" tells the story of Wu Mei Niang, who struggled in her life, but rose to become China's only female emperor, ruling the whole country for almost half a century.

Producer Fan Bingbing plays the role of the emperor. The drama also stars Aarif Lee, Zhang Fengyi, and Li Chen.

It is said that production cost close to 300 million yuan – nearly 50 million US dollars - to recreate the Tang Dynasty.

A release date is yet to be confirmed.
