Cyber model 网络模特

Cyber model, or ma dou in Chinese, is an emerging occupation amid a boom in the country's online shopping. Cyber models do not strut¹ the catwalk. They pose for pictures that get posted online for stores to showcase their products.

网络模特，又称“麻豆”，是随着国内网购潮流的兴起而出现的一个新兴职业。她们工作时不用像专业模特那样走猫步，而是为网店产品的展示做图片模特。

To become a cyber model, you don't necessarily have to be tall and thin with long legs like the professionals. Having a pretty face and being able to pose vivaciously² like a “girl next door” are most important.

做“麻豆”不一定要像职业模特那样腿部细长、身材高挑；有张漂亮脸蛋，然后能够摆出活泼可爱的“邻家女孩”造型才是最重要的。

The models are mostly college students or white-collar workers, whose employers are mainly small online clothing stores operating on a shoestring³ budget.

选择做“麻豆”的多数是大学生或白领，而她们的雇主则主要是小本经营的网络服装店老板。
