Chinanews, Changsha, December 30 – Yi Ruilong, the No.1 glider2 in China, will glide1 over the Xiangjiang River next January.

 

Yi, 63 years old, has engaged in gliding3 and making gliders4 of his own since 1986. He and the glider, Xiongfeng, which he made himself, glided5 over the top of Emei Mountain in 1990. He was the first Chinese to glide to 3,000 m high. From then on, Yi glided over nearly all the famous mountains in China. His great achievement has earned him the name of “the No.1 gilder6 in China”.

 

Yi will be the first Chinese to glide over a great river if he makes it next January. According to plan, Yi will ride in a hot-air balloon in Changsha, which will take him and glider with the wingspan of 10 m to about 500 m high above ground, where he will start his adventure. Yi plans to land at Juzizhou, an islet on the river.

 

“There are not any examples for us to follow, and we know it will be extremely difficult for a glider to fly over 1,000 meters, even in cities, not to mention to glide over a river. We are ready to take risks, and we are confident in making a new record, ”said the organizer of the gliding.
