The Chinese sturgeon mainly lives in the Yangtze River. But thousands of this fish need to migrate to the upper reaches of the Yangtze River for reproduction, and the construction of the Three Gorges Dam and Gezhouba Dam has seriously affected2 the process. China started artificial reproduction research on the Chinese sturgeon in 1982, when the country’s first sturgeon research was established.
Liu Denghong, head of the research institute, said that they would conduct research on wild Chinese sturgeons, and guarantee a better living condition for them. The institute had begun a new research on their reproduction on last October. Liu also revealed that 4.7 million artificially raised sturgeons have been put into the river since 1984.
