Chinanews, Fuzhou, Dec. 13 – Foreign intruding1 species might cause billions of yuan of economic loss to China, said experts attending the first National Biological Intrusion Seminar held in Fuzhou, Fujian Province.

 

China is a country with the most number of foreign species. Currently, China has more than 400 species that have come to live in the country from other places. Since China is basically an agricultural nation, these foreign intruding species have caused many problems to China's agricultural industry and posed a serious threat to the ecological2 safety and sustainable development of the agricultural industry, said Liu Xu, deputy president of Chinese Agricultural Academic Institute.

 

According to agricultural departments' estimation, the eleven foreign intruding species have caused 57 billion yuan of economic loss to China's agricultural and forestry3 industries and the total economic loss might amount to at least 100 billion yuan.
