Chinanews, Beijing, December 7 – According to a report by Farmers' Daily, the consumption1 level of Chinese farmers has improved compared with last year, but no radical2 change has occurred to their consumption structure. The consumption environment and the protection of the rights and interests of consumers in rural areas have also become better. Most farmers have a strong faith in the building of a well-off society.

 

The information mentioned above is quoted from the result of a survey conducted by China Consumers' Association, covering 6,239 farmer families in 162 villages of 9 provinces.

 

The survey shows that 53.2% of rural consumers claim that their rights and interests have been well protected in the past year, much higher than the rate in 1998.

 

The most satisfying public service to rural customers is transportation, followed by the purchase of agricultural resources, water supply, electricity, cell network, television and radio signals, the management of rural free market and banking3 services.

 

Most farmers are willing to spend more to extend their scale of production. Averagely they expect to invest 23.3% of their annual income on that in 2008, when the proportion in 2003 was only 19%.
