Taiwan farmers encouraged to come to mainland to do business

Chinanews, Beijing, Nov. 28 – The State Council Taiwan Affairs Office on Wednesday held a press conference briefing the public about the locations where Taiwan farmers can apply for the individual business certificates and the types of business they can do once they come to the mainland.

 

The press conference was chaired by Pan Haimin, deputy director of the Private Business Operation Supervision1 Department under the State Administration of Industry and Commerce (SAIC).

 

In the mainland, Chinese government has set some cross-Straits agricultural cooperation experimental zones and innovation centers for Taiwan farmers in about 11 provinces, municipalities and autonomous2 regions. The government has set cross-Straits agricultural cooperation experimental zones throughout Fujian and Hainan provinces, in Harbin, Mudanjiang, Jiamusi, Daqing and all the model agricultural reclamation3 zones in Heilongjiang Province, in Pingdu of Shandong Province, Yangling of Shaanxi Province, Foshan and Zhanjiang of Guandong Province, Yulin of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, in the suburban4 areas of Shanghai, and in Kunshan and Yangzhou of Jiangsu Province. The Chinese government has set some agricultural innovation centers for Taiwan farmers in Zhangpu of Fujian Province, Xixia of Shandong Province, Xinjin of Sichuan Province, and Beibei of Chongqing Municipality. In these places, Taiwan farmers can apply for the individual business license5 from the government and work as individual businesspeople in the mainland, Pan said.

 

He said that Taiwan farmers can do business in the mainland in the following fields: crop cultivation6, livestock7 farming, breeding, processing of agricultural products and by-products, sales of self-made agricultural products (cigarettes and goods put under franchised8 operation excluded), import and export of agricultural goods and farming technologies, and exchange and promotion9 of agricultural technologies.
