Chinanews, Lanzhou, August 23 – Duan Wenjie, the honorary president of Dunhuang Institute, has never left Dunhuang for once since 1946. He has devoted1 all his life to the protection of Dunhuang, without whom, the studies of Dunhuang wouldn't have witnessed so much achievement.

 

Thus the National Cultural Heritage Administration and Gansu Provincial2 government have jointly3 issued to Duan a Lifetime Achievement Award for his effort in studying and protecting this precious heritage.

 

In the past, there were not many Chinese archeologists engaged in studying Dunhuang, but Duan and his fellow researchers in the Dunhuang Institute have jointly made Dunhuang studies a formal filed of study in China.

 

Now Duan is 90 years old. The Dunhuang Art Museum in Lanzhou will host a commemorative exhibition on his achievements in the past 60 years, which will be kicked off this afternoon. Besides, Duan's memoir4 will be released very soon.

 

A few days later, a seminar on the protection of Dunhuang murals will be held in Dunhuang.
