July 26 - Shanghai scientists have successfully cloned a pig from body cells for the first time, the Jiefang Daily reported on Wednesday.

 

The cloned swine was born on July 16 at a hoggery1 in Nanhui, Shanghai. The black and white pig weighed one kilogramme after birth.

 

Experts said that the cloned swine will be conducive2 to the research of organ transplants. Meanwhile the research will also provide new means for swine proliferation and breeding.
