China to develop large civil aircraft

Chinanews, Beijing, June 27 – During the Eleventh Five-Year Plan Period (2006-2010), China will make great efforts in the production of civil aviation products. It aims to make some progress in the production of large airplanes, small feeder planes, helicopters, general aircraft, civil aircraft engines, and airborne equipment for civil aircraft, the Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defence (COSTIND) announced on Tuesday.

 

During the Eleventh Five-Year Period, China will focus its attention on five aspects in related with civil aviation industry, namely the production of civil aviation aircraft, the industrialization of civil aircraft making, the improvement of related scientific and research work, the improvement of self-innovation and industrial managerial capability1.

 

In producing large airplanes, small feeder planes, helicopters, general aircraft, civil aircraft engines, and airborne equipment, China will try to combine its long-term goals with short-term ones. These products will be made with both civil and military resources and will rely on both independent innovation and international technologies. Much of the production will be undertaken in the form of subcontracts.

 

Apart from the production of civil aviation products, China also aimed to promote the industrialization of civil aviation. The industry is expected to generate sales revenue quadrupling current amount. China will promote the sales of civil airplanes and subcontract the production of airplane spare parts. In addition, aviation maintenance industry will also be promoted, said Li Benjian, head of the Civil Aircraft Department under COSTIND.
