The information was released at the International Seminar of Scientific Research on Dome Argus in Shanghai on May 28.
Dome-A or Dome Argus is an Antarctica plateau located 1,200 kilometres inland. It is thought to be one of the coldest naturally occurring places on Earth, with temperatures believed to reach 90 degrees centigrade below zero. The plateau is also considered to be a hot spot of next phase of scientific research during the International Polar Year (IPY 2007-2008), with several projects focusing on the area, including China's Panda Project.
Currently, the building of the summer station at Dome-A has been approved by the State Council of China.
"It will be the first inland Antarctic scientific research station of China, and it will form a direct research path with Zhongshan Station and benefit researchers of various fields," said Wu Jun, vice2 director of the Chinese Arctic and Antarctic Administration.
It can be estimated that China will play an irreplaceable role in the researches at Dome-A, as its Panda Project has been selected as one of the core projects by the National IPY Committees.
