Chinanews, Urumqi, May 21 – A large natural gas field, which is expected to generate1 1.47 million cubic meters of natural gas every day, has been found near the Karamay oilfield. This is the largest natural gas field that has ever been found in Xinjiang, the Xinjiang Oilfield Company declared last Friday.

 

The natural gas field is located in the southern rim2 of the Junggar Basin, with the total reserves reaching nearly 30 billion cubic meters.

 

According to the Xinjiang Oilfield Company, Junggar Basin has 8.6 billion tons of oil reserves and 2.1 trillion cubic meters of natural gas reserves in total. At present, the amount of verified3 oil reserves reaches less than one-third of the total and the verification rate of oil resources in the basin amounts to only 20%. Meanwhile, the amount of natural gas reserves that has been verified in the basin was less than 100 billion cubic meters.
