Chinanews, Beijing, May 17 – CCTV reports that some symbols found in rock paintings in Helan Mountains are believed to be the embryonic1 form of Chinese script.

 

Recently, researchers have discovered 36 rock paintings on the rock faces in the mountains from Helan to Suyukou. Besides animal pictures like sheep and horses, a certain amount of unidentified graphic2 characters are considered to be ideographs, the earliest Chinese script.

 

Research shows that these rock paintings could possibly date back to the New Stone Age.
