According to China's top tax authority, over 260-thousand companies will have to start paying an environment tax in April.

中国税务局表示，四月起将有超过26万家公司需要缴纳环境税。

"At present, tax authorities around the country have identified more than 260-thousand tax-paying identities based on the basic information on pollution sources and the historical data of pollutant³ charges, and are stepping up the collection of taxpayers⁴' basic information so as to reduce the taxpayer's declaration burden in the first quarter. "

China has offered training to over 70 percent of those companies and streamlined declaration procedures to ensure that the first environment tax collection period runs smoothly⁵.

Tax-paying entities² can also choose to declare online.

The Environmental Protection Tax Law took effect on Jan. 1, and taxpayers have to file for taxation each quarter.
