The public prosecution¹ against Bo Xilai shows the clear-cut stance and strong determination of the Communist Party of China (CPC) to root out corruption², according to a commentary of the People's Daily.

 

《人民日报》评论文章称，对薄熙来提起公诉表明了中国共产党反对腐败的鲜明立场和坚定决心。

 

Public prosecution（公诉）指人民检察院（People’s Procuratorate）对犯罪嫌疑人的犯罪行为(criminal activity)向人民法院提出控告，要求法院通过审判确定犯罪事实、惩罚犯罪人的诉讼活动。济南市人民检察院起诉书（indictment）指控薄熙来涉嫌受贿（taking bribes）、贪污（embezzlement）、滥用职权(abuse of power)犯罪。

 

该评论文章指出，对这一案件的公诉，充分体现了重事实、讲法治的精神（the spirit of respecting the facts and the rule of law），有力彰显了法律的尊严和权威（the dignity and authority of law）。对薄熙来一案提起公诉再次表明，法律面前人人平等（all men are equal before the law），制度面前没有例外（no exception will be made before regulations），谁都没有超越法律的特权（nobody has the privilege to be placed above the law），谁都不能心存“刑不上大夫”的侥幸（no one should take the chance that ‘punishments are not for nobles’）。
