The government will encourage civil societies to play a greater role by simplifying registration1 while beefing up supervision2, Civil Affairs Minister Li Liguo said on Wednesday.
 
民政部部长李立国本周三表示，政府将简化注册手续、加强强监督力度、鼓励社会组织发挥更大的作用。
 
Civil society指“民间组织、社会组织”，也可用non-governmental organization表示。民政部长表示对四大类社会组织，即industrial associations（行业协会商会类）、organizations promoting technology（科技类）、charities（公益慈善类）、community services（城乡社区服务类）组织，实行direct registration with the civil affairs authorities（民政部门直接登记），不再由业务主管单位审查同意。
 
政府还将建设information platform（信息平台），把民政部实行的registration（登记）、annual inspections3 (年度审查)、law enforcement (执法)、 evaluations4 (评估)的情况和社会各方面对社会组织的反映、评价及时反映在信息平台上，以利于加强public supervision （舆论监督），共同促进社会组织健康有序发展，发挥grassroots democracy（基层民主）的积极作用。
