Chinanews, Beijing, Feb. 4 – "To my surprise, white collar workers, who generally earn more than workers in general, are no more wiser than most people in managing their money," said Ruan Jingwen, vice1 general manager of the iResearch Consulting Firm, which has just finished an online survey with MSN's Chinese language website on white collars' spending habits.
The survey shows that 16% of the white collars spend all the monthly salary, with no money left to put by or invest. At the same time, 9.2% of the white collars do not make any plans for shopping. Rather, they spend whenever and wherever they want. Of those white collars who do have a saving plan, 30% put their money in banks, and 36.4% buy insurance or other low-risk financial products. Few of them buy any stocks. "I think they definitely need professionals' telling them how to manage their money properly," said Ruan. In order to do the survey, iResearch and MSN collected 64,000 sets of questionnaire papers online. All the respondents are aged2 23 - 40 and have a stable job. They work at the office desk and make a monthly salary of over 3,000 yuan. They all have a college education background. To these white collar workers, house rents are their biggest expenditure3 in a month. The survey shows that most white collars are interested in luxury goods and 23% of them like to have some. They prefer European cars to the less expensive Japanese cars and 73% regard overdraft4 as "common." More than 60% of the respondents buy things by credit cards. And people who do the survey say that it might be because of their fondness for expensive things that most white collars spend more than they can save.
